Brief Executive Summary
The House Committee on Government Reform and Oversight investigated the tobacco industry's practice of providing corporate aircraft to congressional leaders and political parties. The investigation found that the tobacco industry provided more subsidized campaign travel than any other corporate special interest. Furthermore, Republican congressional Leadershp was the beneficiary of this subsidized campaign travel. Under FEC regulations, if a corporate jet is provided for campaign purposes, the recipient is required to reimburse the company for the cost of a first-class ticket. The committee found that Republican leadership was charged far less for the value of the travel provided.
